“A building is not just a place to be but a way to be.”—Frank Lloyd Wright
Situated in a new Southampton development called “The Fields,” our designated space for this Traditional Home sponsored showhouse was a lower level bedroom. Our approach for this small room with limited light was to transform it into a destination and retreat within the larger envelope of the house for children and adults alike.
To maximize the space, we used Austin bunk beds by ducduc made up with bedding by Matouk. To give the room a sense of geography, we clad the walls in ship lap and painted them black for effect. To evoke a modern sensibility, we incorporated fabrics from Frank Lloyd Wright’s recently reissued collection by Schumacher and used these graphic prints on the vintage pair of Widdicomb armchairs, the custom roman shade, and the throw pillows on the bunk beds. Using this combination of architectural and design details allowed us to bring to life our vision of not just where, but also how lazy, summer days in the Hamptons should be spent and enjoyed.
