“There is no place like home.” – Dorothy
JLD was approached by a young doctor couple seeking to create a kid friendly home that reflected their love of the outdoors and their Canadian roots. Through the use of sturdy furnishings and stain resistant fabrics, earth tones and layered textures, the main living areas of the house were re-imagined to accommodate the needs of both parents and children. Aspects of this project include employing a high/low mix of furniture, adding toy storage throughout the house, incorporating an existing collection of Inuit and Asian art into the plan, creating a functional home office for working evenings, and devising ways to display the children’s artwork. The result is a series of rustic yet modern rooms that are comfortable enough to meet the needs of this bustling family.
